Registration for Junior Infants September 2012

We will be holding our registration from 7 - 9 February 2012 each day at the school from 10.00am to 12.00 noon and from 7.30 - 8.30pm on Thursday 9 February.

Postal applications will not be accepted.

Please bring the following information with you:

An original birth certificate and photocopy of same.

An original Roman Catholic Baptismal Certificate (if Roman Catholic) and a photocopy of same.

Two current utility bills(Gas/ESB/UPC)

Registration will take place in the Atrium.

Reminder for Junior Infant Parents

The Junior Infant children will perform a selection of Christmas carols on Wednesday 21 Decemeber at 11.15. Parents are asked to enter the school through the main door and assemble in the Atrium. If you have not given your child's class teacher a santa hat please do so as soon as possible.

Christmas Performance

On Friday 16 December, the fourth and fifth class boys and girls performed a selection of Christmas songs and hymns. They conducted two performances - one for junior infants to first class and one for second class to sixth class. The quality of the singing and the harmonies was incredible and we were well all amazed. The children worked incredibly hard to prepare the songs and were tutored and encouraged by Ms. Murray, Ms. Desmond and Ms. Donohoe. Congratulations to all involved.

Welcome Sam Maguire

It has been an amazing year for the Dublin football team with their win in the All Ireland Final. Following on from the recent visit of the Liam McCarthy cup, we were honoured to welcome Mr Barry Cahill and the Sam Maguire cup. Barry visited all the boys and girls in the school and kindly allowed photographs to be taken. Some of the senior boys and girls had prepared questions and Barry took time to talk to us and share the excitement of the win. We thank Mr. Lyons and Ms. Higgins for coordinating the event.

Important information regarding inclement weather and school closures

'January brings the snow, makes our feet and fingers glow' or so the old rhyme says. Who knows what bad weather the early months of 2012 will bring. Therefore, I'd like to remind parents/guardians of our school's policy in relation to school closure due to poor weather:

A decision to close the school due to advese weather conditions will only be made in circumsances where it is felt the weather conditions are likely to put the health and safety of the children, parents and staff at risk.

The school will inform parents through the 'Text-a-parent' service in relation to school closures. Please ensure that the school has an up to date mobile phone number for your family. Further information relating to the exceptional closure and subsequent days will be conveyed by text and posted here on the school website (www.sacredhearthunstown.blogspot.com). We will also endeavour to have this information posted on the RTE and TV3 websites.

Any decision to close the school will be made at the earliest possible time. That said, weather conditions can change from hour to hour and it may not always be possible to contact parents before the children set off for school on a particular morning. Therefore I urge all parents to have an emergency plan in place and make sure your child knows what to do and where to go if they arrive at school and are told that there is no school that day.

While every reasonable effort will be made to inform parents/guardians of what is happening so that they can make alternative arrangements for the children, it is the responsibility of parents/guardians to have a plan in place to deal with emergency school closures, particularly those that occur unexpectedly and/or at short notice.

I would like to thank you for your continued help and support and I ask for your understanding and cooperation in relation to the issues outlined above.

Snakes in Huntstown

Welcome Dublin Zoo

On Tuesday 4 October, we welcomed handlers from Dublin Zoo. They brought with them a selection of rare and wonderful snakes, spiders and lizards. Everyone was captivated especially when the huge Cobra was presented. It provided us with an opportunity to explore exotic and wonderful wildlife from around the globe. Thank you Ms. Barry for coordinating the event.

C.O.W day 2011

C.O.W day - Get mooooving

On Friday 30 September, the children and staff wore black and white clothes and made every effort to cycle or walk (C.O.W) to school. The event was a huge success with the bicycle racks filled to capacity. Members of the green team greeted people as they arrived at the school gate and taught us all about the health benefits associated with walking and cycling. We hope that our strategies will encourage everyone to abandon the car in favour of a healthy approach to travel.

All Ireland Final 2011

Everyone in Huntstown was cheering for the Kilkenny Hurling team during the recent All Ireland final. Our fifth class teacher, Mr. Herity played in goal and helped to secure victory for his team. It was a thrilling game. We are all very proud of Mr. Herity and wish him well for victories in the future.

All the boys and girls have settled back to school. We are delighted to welcome all our new Junior Infants. They have been learning lots of new things since they joined us in Sacred Heart N.S and are very excited about the year ahead.
